Still a Little Color

I live less than 1 mile from the Red River of the North, I went down to the river today and was delighted to see there was still some leaves left on the trees and a bit of color. This winding river looks peaceful and calm right now. Come spring it will be many feet higher and swift moving. The river has caused slumping on this side of the river at Fort Abercrombie Historical Site. We loose a few feet of the grounds every spring......

Again it's not clear here on the blog but if you click the photo, it takes you to a better image

The Duck Pond

Ran some errands today so I stopped by Chahinkapa Park in Wahpeton. Lots of geese and ducks on the other side of the park but only a handful of ducks at the duck pond. Enjoyed a lovely afternoon.

Just a note, I'm not sure why the photos look blurry on the blog. Click the image to get a clearer look. If anyone has any ideas as to why they look blurry and what I could do differently, I would love to hear from you!

July 14, 2010 Waiting for the Sun

I had a few volunteer sunflowers in my flower bed this spring. This one is at eye level for my 5'3" frame. How fun to watch it change from day to day!

July 12, 2010 Dancers

In moms flower bed I found these pretty yellow daisies. There was a bit of a breeze and so the daisies seemed to dance about. The movement of the leaves and and flowers created the dreamy background.

June 1, 2010 Butterfly Kisses

My sis in law and I stopped to see my son in Sioux Falls SD and we all went to the Sertoma Butterfly House. We spent several hours enjoying the butterflies from all over the world and pursuing them with our cameras! Well Barb and I did, the kids walked thru and then had to wait for us! Several times they would flit past and I could feel their wings brush against my cheek. Butterfly kisses for me! Great place to visit if you are ever in Sioux Falls!

April 27, 2010 Without Color

Spring leaves on the tree in my front yard. Trying something different today, some black and white. What would it be like to live in a world without color!

April 26, 2010 Opened My Eyes

These Maple trees just fascinate me. I've walked by these trees for at least two springs and never noticed the blooms that come before the leaves. I love spring, everything is new, fresh, vibrant. The new leaves in spring tend to have a blush, they are so pretty! I think carrying my camera everywhere, thinking about what my pic today should be has opened my eyes to see more of the things that were there all the time!

April 25, 2010 I'm Waiting!

This time of year is one filled with anticipation! Waiting for all the snow to finally be gone. Waiting for the grass to turn green, waiting for the trees to get leaves, perennials to poke their way thru the earth, flowers and trees to bloom, school to be out, migrating birds to stop at my feeders and summer. In the waiting, I've learned not to be so focused on what I'm waiting for that I miss the glory and wonder of today. I take time each day to actively look for the special gifts only this day will hold. I encourage you to try and do the same. You never know what you might find waiting for you!

April 18, 2010 All Dressed Up!

First I must apologize for getting so far behind and for abandoning the blog for several days! I have a daily pic and will post a few each day so that I get caught up without skipping any. My hubby and I took a walk to the river and it was so much fun to see the trees beginning to leaf out. I love how in the spring the leaves have a blush and often added finery. Like me, they are celebrating a new season by getting all gussied up! Spring is a party.....hope you are enjoying it!

March 26, 2010 Afloat

Last falls leaves on the spring pond. I visited Wisconsin this weekend, beautiful spot and beautiful weather. There's a small man made lake for swimming in the summer. It has jus a bit of water in it right now, mostly snowmelt perhaps, they'll fill it later. On the surface were scattered last falls oak leaves. I don't have an oak tree, don't see them around town. I learned this weekend that many of the leaves stay on the trees all winter even thru wind, storms, rain and blizzards! A friend told me that often they won't fall off til the new ones come. There's a spiritual lesson there, if we want new in our lives, we have to get rid of the old! After a winter of snow cover I found the leaves to be soft and pliable instead of crisp and crumbly like the leaves in my yard. It was like they had just fallen off the tree! I took a long walk around the grounds thru the woods, loved the sound of the leaves as they rustled under foot and the smell of the ground and the forest waking up from the long winter. Feels good to wake up after a nap, rested, energized, refreshed, ready to go and grow!! I'm glad spring is here, I'm ready to go!
