May 27, 2010 What do you do with your worn jeans?

Some people patch with them, some people quilt or craft with them, some people throw them away and some people give them to me! This rug and 4 place mats were custom made for someone using the families worn jeans. Sometimes I get not just jeans but tshirs, sweats shirts, sheets and blankets and I weave something useful from it for them. Other times people clean their closets and I weave rugs for myself, for gifts and for sale. It's fun turning a bag of old clothes fit only for the garbage into something beautiful useful and environmentally friendly! So what do you do with your old jeans?

April 4, 2010 Retired

Spent Easter Sunday with my parents in northern MN. Had a great time, just too short. My sis cooked a late dinner, delish! I love walking around mom and dads old farmstead. The house is over 100 years old, builf of hand made brick and there are wonderful treasures if you look for them. This car like some of the other things around was discarded years ago and brings to mind all kinds of questions. Who drove it, young or old, family, little children in the back, why did they park it here in the woods? When you look how close the tree is to the door, you can see the car has been there for a very long time. It was retired, the enginge taken and the body left for me to photograph one day.

The Vita Ferm March 14. 2010

One last pic from my excursion around Huron. This wonderful old building caught my attentions. Many of the windows are broken but there are window air conditioning units on the ground level. Cook Seed Co. the sign says and "Vita Ferm". Found out that before the Cook Seed Co. used the building it belong to Swift. Meat packing perhaps?

The Octagon House March 7, 2010

Saturday afternoon we took a little tour of Huron, Barb showed me some wonderful old buildings (I love old buildings!) One of our first stops was the octagon house. Really, it has 8 sides. It is in the process of a slow revitalization! If I can learn more, I'll share it with you!

Due to 11 days of no sun, I've been a little blue, didn't even want to take photos. I'll post a few others from my trip for the days I missed. Sorry for my absence, I've missed this little daily ritual and hopefully am back on track!

Open it! December 30, 2009

Open it!, originally uploaded by picturethepromises.

The new year is fast approaching. The old will soon be gone and the new will have arrived. Sometimes it's good to shut the door on the past, to leave it behind. But it can be scary to move into the future. The door to tomorrow may not look like one we want to open. Is it safe? Will I like what's behind that door? Am I going thru alone? New years and new doors often mean change. I choose not to fear the change but to embrace it. Behind that beat up old door I will find challenges and change, the familiar and new adventures. I can't wait to open the door. How about You?
