Little Red

Today's moment. I stood outside near the trees and the feeders where so many birds were congregating earlier this afternoon. The Chickadees and Nuthatches would swoop in for a nut or sunflower but the Sparrows and Jays are much more cautious. Eventually the finches and the sparrows would perch in the high branches of the trees. Perfect, the high branches were in the late afternoon light. I was able to capture the catch light in the eye on a few of the photos. What fun, the Jay's did come as close as one of the trees but didn't stay long. Maybe tomorrow.....

Junco

Sunday's moment, this sweet Junco perched high enough in the tree so that he sat in the light of the afternoon sun.

Just One More Peanut

Today's moment, my little Nuthatch seemed pleased that I'd put out a fresh buffet of seeds and nuts. I so enjoy these little friends.

Harris Sparrow

Other than my Nuthatches and Chickadees not too many birds are bold enough to come feed when I stand near the feeders. This one however was bold enough to scratch in the grass not too far from me. I believe it to be an immature Harris Sparrow. Correct me if I'm wrong please!

A Seed A Day

Today I stood outside near my feeders and just waited for the birds to come after refilling the feeders. The nuthatches are the bravest. Three or four of them would fly in and dash out each with a seed or peanut in their beaks. What fun!

Caught!

I put out peanuts the other day in the hopes of attracting the Blue Jays. Today one stopped by. I expected him to take the peanuts, someone had been eating them. Instead he was on the large feeder filling his gullet with the finer bird seed. Maybe the squirrels and chipmunks ate the peanuts.......

A Very Present Danger

I'm a couple days behind in posting my daily pics. This is Fridays pic. I love watching my birds in the back yard. Unfortunately, so do the town cats. This guy was prowling about around my back yard Friday. He posed for his mug shot before turning tail and racing off. He looks just like the cat I saw at my girlfriends a week earlier a few miles out of town. He looks just like our house cat too, except meaner.....

My Little Chickadee

Yesterday's post. I got the photo taken but didn't get to posting til now. I love my birds, my Chickadees are some of my favorites. They don't often sit still long enough for me to get a photo so I'm really tickled to get this!

A Little Birdie Told Me

I filled my feeders for the first time in months yesterday. It didn't take my birds long to find the sunflower and other bird seeds. Today I changed my lens for the first time in months too. Put my 55-200 lens on. I still needed to crop this a bunch but I love the sweet little birdies.

For some reason, the photos on the blog are not real clear, they're a bit blurry. If you click on the photo, it will take you to a clearer pic.

May 31, 2010 Hidden Treasures

When photographing my roses I was startled by a morning dove flying out of my grapevines. Careful not to touch the vines I got close enough to see a nest with eggs nestled in among the leaves and vines. So exciting to find little treasures! Hope you find something today!

May 5, 2010 White Throated Sparrow

Another of my spring visitors, the White Throated Sparrow, would not pause for a second so I could get a good clear shot. He was constantly moving and scratching and pecking. Love them tho. I believe I've ID'd him properly, if I'm mistaken please set me straight!

April 28, 2010 To My Surprise!

Every day on my lunch break I take a 20 minute walk. Now that the weather is nicer I've left the gym behind for the great outdoors. I take my music player and crank up the volume on some good old southern gospel or bluegrass music and get going. It is so nice to get out in the fresh air, sunshine and nature for that 20 minutes. Even a cold windy day beats walking in circles in the gym! A couple days ago I noticed a nest about 4 feet off the ground on this bent over tree branch. I checked inside and there were no eggs. I wasn't sure if this was a newly built nest, but didn't notice the day before. Today as I was walking I was thrilled and surprised to find a mama robbin sitting on the nest. I move slowly as close as I dared (I've started walking with my camera!) and snapped a few before she flew off. I checked the nest for eggs, none yet but I'm hopeful!

April 15, 2010 Feeder Friend

Just a quick shot out the patio door today. I'd never bought the seed logs for the birds before and didn't know how they'd go. All the birds feed on them and the woodpeckers especially like them! Be blessed friends!

April 8, 2010 Next Time....

Driving home from Fargo, I took a country road I don't often drive on. Some one told me there may be an eagles nest, they had seen eagles.... Well, I didn't see any sign of eagles but I did see this beautiful goose flying toward the water. I stopped, got my camera and got a shot of him in flight, beautiful, graceful, trouble is, I forgot to slow down the shutter speed and the photo was just white snow. So I have to settle for this goose wading in the water instead of flying thru the sky. That's something I'm learning the hard way when I shoot in manual. I need to remember to check my shutter speed and my aperture. Maybe next time....
